This season opinion

How did you think your season wen (personally and the team)? I thought that sometimes the team seemed a little segmented. TGCC s players seem to be getting stronger and need to drop some of the weaker sides to keep up competitiveness and interest.

What do you think about Grafton being in a league? I think that it needs to be approached with an open mind. I hope that it doesn t split the club into a Saturday team and a Sunday team but that it attracts more players, funding and exciting new sides to play against.

How do you think we ll fair in the league? Well you can t be relegated!!!!!

Whats was your favourite game of the season? FAS Ramblers because they have a big black man!

Your choice for player of the season? Well not to be a brown nose but I think you Tom! Wicket keeping improved and finally achieved your well deserved 50.

This season stats

H/S: 47?
Wickets: 33
B/B: 6 for?
Catches: 1

This season opinion

How did you think your season wen (personally and the team)?

Good I would liked to have finished a couple of games off differently- got out on 47 above when webmaster got his 70, out on about 22 at Hockley when wanted to finish game off & thought Ben and I could have got the winning runs at Ebrington until he was unfortunately bowled of his pad. Team effort good we lost a few games two above which we should have won. We need to approach limited overs differently, we lost most of them. On the whole great and we turned round a lot of 50 for 5 to win and bowled sides out who had good starts

What do you think about Grafton being in a league?

Good/Bad. Time games usually have better finishes/closer. You can get up the opposition noses by holding out for a draw etc. Personally I like playing my cricket on Sundays I do things Saturday. I think the captain will have big pressure as I captain to kill the opposition it will be hard for everyone to get the game they want where the aim is to win in the best fashion you can. A league game could be all over at 10 for 4 after 10 overs a time game not so I hope it does not ruin Sundays (and split the side) as the team put out is poorer & the opp does not want to play us.

How do you think we ll fair in the league?

O.k. but I think the quality of the opposition will be better than expected especially from the new team lists I have seen. We will have a steep learning curve with the limited overs game

Whats was your favourite game of the season?

Bards they had the game and then the close draw came when we pulled it round in the field. We have learnt to turn things round from poor positions.

Your choice for player of the season?

Ben J closely followed by S.Kirk (run machine fast bowling) Martin Ash (Curtley just outside off stump) Phil S (voluble left handed knocks) Me?

Young Player of the season?

The NICK MORGAN Interview

Nick Morgan pictured right

The Basics

Full Name: Nicholas Henry Morgan

DOB: 24/3/52

POB: Solihull

Nicknames None owned up to

Living arrangement: Yes - just about managing doing so with Ann, Oliver and three gerbils

This season stats

Runs: 192

H/S: 33/37 I think

Wickets: 15

B/B: don’t know but do know that its wasn’t that special

Catches: 4

2001 season opinion

How did you think your season went (personally and the team)? Personally not too brilliant. When bowling I seemed to have a " four ball" every over. As for batting the only decent knock I had was in Menoca when I was woken up and told to go in and bat – maybe that’s the secret. TEAM We seemed to have more disputes than we normally have - I hope that is not a sign of things to come when we are in the league.

What do you think about Grafton being in a league? Along with everyone else I have reservation about whether or not we will be able to be competitive whilst maintaining the " Grafton Spirit". Having said that we had to join – if we hadn’t we would have gone backwards. We must all make it work for this season (giving our support to the various captains) and then take stock next winter.

How do you think we’ll fair in the league? Havent got a clue – some tell me that we are up against it others say that we will be promoted. As long as we compete, are not rolled over and enjoy it I guess we will be alright.

Whats was your favourite game of the season? Long Compton – first game.

Your choice for player of the season? Tommy boy for making great progress and becoming a reliable opening batsmen

Young Player of the season? Think I will play it safe here. Darren for his bowling and Oliver for his batting.

Comedy moment of the season? Not too sure whether it was comical or sad. But it was when, needing 80 off the last over to win against the Bards and with Holty and Grego our last pair Holty decides to reduce the deficit to 79 and leave Jase to face three balls for a draw. Whose he kidding?

General Grafton Favourites

What is your favourite away game? Bards

Favourite away pub? Its got to be the bar at Hockley Heath – no competition.

Who would you most likely play for if Grafton weren’t around? ? If anyone it would be Exhall but don’t think I would bother.

What are your targets for next season I would like to get my bowling back to where it was a few seasons ago.

General Favourites

Favourite pass time (excl playing cricket)? Using the old cars

Dream bird and why? I’m with Kirky on this one, Cathy Rogers from Scrap Heap Challenge because she is gorgeous.

Dead or alive who would your most like to meet/have met? Winston Churchill

Whats your favourite type food? Italian

Favourite takeaway food? Indian

Favourite restaurant/takeaway? Café Chutney

Who prepares your favourite cricket tea? Julia

What’s your all time favourite TV show? Scrap heap challenge & salvage squad

What CD is in your CD player at the moment? Texas

What’s your favourite film of all time? On Mr Finnigans advice its got to be Pulp Fiction

Favourite quote from a film? Apart from Pulp Fiction, I don’t watch a lot of films so I haven’t got a clue.

Favourite holiday destination? Studland near Poole

Favourite sport to play (excl cricket)? Table football (with Tat). We are the champions.

Football team? Not bothered.

Cricket Team? The Bears

Rugby team? Tigers

Alcoholic Drink? Bitter in winter Lager in summer

Soft drink? Coke

Hot drink? Tea

Favourite Pub? Blue Boar

Favourite Club? Never have been a king of the dance floor but if asked to choose it would have to be the caves in Callen Porter

Proudest moment in your life? It was either the 28 against Rowington ( I had to get it in) or being around when Oliver was born. Given that he will read this I will go for the latter.

Worst moment of your life? When I dropped OJ and broke his leg. Didn’t feel too good about that one but, to those who have seen me field, it will not come as any great surprise.

And finally, where do you think you’ll be in 10 years? That is a good question. With a bit of luck still around but where and doing what I haven’t got a clue.

Oliver Morgan Interview

OJ pictured above (sorry wrong OJ i know but deal with it)

This season stats

Runs: 178
H/S: 65*
Wickets: 4
B/B:3 for 52
Catches: 6

2001 season opinion

How did you think your season went (personally and the team)? Personally I reckon it was my best season ever and a successful year for the club, especially drawing with the Bards

What do you think about Grafton being in a league? It will be brilliant to play in matches that are contests for points but the fixture list could be too crowed if people don't want to play twice in a weekend.

How do you think we'll fair in the league? We should do fine because we have enough good players who will be well suited to the league standard. At least starting in the bottom division we have something to aim for in progressing to the next level.

Whats was your favourite game of the season? Charlotte Mason because Darren and I batted through to the end and got our half centuries

Your choice for player of the season? Nick Morgan, that fighting fit fast bowler from Temple Grafton. His genuine pace clearly worried some batsman, as a surprised look came on their faces when he was asked to bowl. But really, the best player has to be Martin Ashfield for his accurate bowling and his explosive batting, being the rock of the team, playing regularly, despite the arrival of the baby.

Young Player of the season? Darren Morris because he played superbly throughout the season and managed to come second in the bowling averages and knock up a 50 on the way, whilst being the youngest regular player in the team. A fine talent for Grafton in the coming years.

Comedy moment of the season? Seeing Nick Morgan actually dive for a ball and end up being sprawled across the floor, unable to get up, and still miss the ball.

General Grafton Favourites

What is your favourite away game? Upton House

Favourite away pub? Castle Inn

Who would you most likely play for if Grafton weren't around? Exhall

What are your targets for next season? To keep better behind the stumps and to get 100.

This season opinion

How did you think your season went (personally and the team)?

Personally not well had hoped for 200 plus runs but got injured in the first game & never got 100% fit after that. Team very good we certainly won some games that in previous seasons would have been lost & we still maintain a good team spirit.

What do you think about Grafton being in a league?

Am very pleased about it but must admit to being a bit concerned about the effect on Sunday games.

How do you think we ll fare in the league?

Having seen the teams, top half of table should be possible. Above 4th would be an achievement.

What was your favourite game of the season?

Probably the Bards I would think. It s not often that 3 results are possible with only one over to go. It also proved that declaration games can be best. A close second would be the game at Long Compton where Kirky got a century and got the winning runs in the last over.

Your choice for player of the season?

Simon Kirk. He has acquired the knack of staying in where once he might have given his wicket away. Also bowled with good pace.

Young Player of the season?

Oh dear, Darren I suppose (!) I think he surprised himself with the number of wickets he took & his batting is improving. A very close second would be Oliver for his batting & the way he kept wicket to some wayward bowling.

Comedy moment of the season?

Can t really say my catch at Ebrington so it would have to be Jason getting out " hit wicket ". Off the field it would be Andrew Allen trying to read Viz while p*ssed in Menorca. Oh, and 7 really fat blokes from Phoenix CC all piling into a Renault Espace, nearly breaking the suspension.

2001 season opinion

How did you think your season went (personally and the team)?

Would have liked to get a few more runs, but never fear as we all know form is temporary, class is permanent. The team did well on the whole, but we did loose a few games that we possibly should have won.

What do you think about Grafton being in a league?

Never thought I d see Grafton in a league situation, can only think in a positive light, time will tell.

How do you think we ll fair in the league?

It s going to be a steep learning curve, must get some more quality players

Whats was your favourite game of the season?

Away to Bards, Village cricket at its best, competitive game with a bit of a row at the end. Also enjoyed a pub game against Toms Alcester school old chums.

Your choice for player of the season?

Martin Ashfield year in year out always on the spot, and performed well with the bat.

Young Player of the season?

All the young lads have a lot to offer and will only get better, but my young player of the season whilst he is still young goes to Tom for all ROUND commitment (to stand behind those stumps and see the ball going past must be a real pi-ser but he never gives in) and grafting away with the bat and proving that he can do it. A great knock against Stanway to win the game.
Comedy moment of the season?

Whenever Jase comes into bat , especially if its to bat out 12 overs to save the game.
