Match reports 2002-2003

All the Blue's games in words 2002-2003 (Date Order)

Monday 19th August (Friendly)

Town Blue's 13 Flamborough Juniors 1

Town Blue’s got their pre-season training off to a flying start playing Flamborough Juniors in this friendly at Queensgate on Monday 19th August.

Playing fluent football across the pitch the Blue’s soon had Flamborough under the cosh with the 2 wide players (William Higgins/Jamie Williams) excelling.

The midfield including new signing Nick Hargraves controlled the game allowing the defence to push forward which in turn allowed the whole team to play as one.

This is only the second time the Blue’s have gelled playing 11 a-side football and if they are to make any impression this coming season then displays like this have to become the norm.

25th August

Bridlington Town Junior Blue’s 5 Greetland Goldstars 1

Town Blue’s continued their pre-season friendly fixtures entertaining Greetland Goldstars from the West Riding last Sunday coming away with a comfortable 5-1 win.

Playing without key members of the team the Blue’s took the game to Greetland and were 2 goals up within the first 10 minutes courtesy of Nathan Cunningham.

For the rest of the first half the Blue’s laid siege to Greetlands goalmouth without extending their lead.

In the second half Greetland started as though they had something to prove and after 5 minutes gave themselves a well-earned goal after the Blue’s decided that the game was over!

For the next 10 minutes the Greetland strikers came at the Blue’s time after time but fortunately for the home team they could not find the Blue’s goalmouth.

Slowly the Blue’s came back into the game and after a good run down the left by William Higgins James Webb found the back of the Greetland net to settle the Blue’s down.

Shortly afterwards Ashley Sowersby picked up the ball in the Greetland 18 yard box to fire the Blue’s into a 4-1 lead.

The Blue’s were again playing decent football and 5 minutes from time Cunningham turned the Greetland defence to fire home the Blue’s fifth and gain his hat trick.
