Press Release Dons Sign Prynne

Press Release 14/5/02

Dons sign Prynne to bolster line-up

Following last weekend's narrow 48-42 Conference League defeat at
Newcastle, the Wimbledon Management have taken steps to strengthen the
side by signing the experienced Jason Prynne on loan from Premier League
side Exeter.

Prynne joins the side as a direct replacement for the ineligible Glen
Phillips and is expected to average around nine points per meeting. He
gained his initial success riding for the defunct St. Austell Gulls and
 captained the side in 2000.

Commenting on the latest acquisition, Dons co-promoter David Croucher said
" Jason joins Wimbledon with the blessing of his Premier League club
Exeter. He is very keen to put on a good show for the Dons fans and is an
 important signing."

Last weekend a weakened Wimbledon side put up a brave performance at
Newcastle with David Meldrum contributing an outstanding 20 points
 including six heat victories.

Unfortunately, Meldrum failed to receive any meaningful backup from his
teammates as the Dons fell to their second away league defeat. The lack of
a third heat leader, together with the unfortunate absence of reserve Jon
Stevens left the side weaker than expected.

League points are at stake this coming Thursday when the Buxton Hitmen
visit Plough Lane. The side from the Peak district includes Aidan Collins,
Chris Collins and Paul Burnett, who all tasted victory when Belle Vue
downed the Dons a fortnight ago.

Wimbledon line up for their opening home league fixture as follows:

 1. David Meldrum, 2. Peter Collyer, 3. Martin Williams, 4. TBA, 5. Jason
Prynne, 6. Jon Stevens, 7. Chris Hunt (capt) .

This week's fixture sees the introduction of the "Kids for a Quid" scheme
with all accompanied children paying a reduced admission of £1.

The full colour programme is also great value at £2 and contains 32 pages
of features, reports and photos of the team.

 End of Press Release.
