Dissapointing end for Gedling!!James Naylor Wednesday, May 15, 2002 21:44 GMT
After an excellent 3-0 win against Radcliffe, Gedling were this evening looking to secure fourth place in the league with victory against the more than likely promoted Keyworth Tavern.
Unfortunately Gedling were on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line. Keyworth started the brighter and Gedling struggled to get into the game, Keyworth took the lead from a dubious penalty decision, the goal seemed to galvanise Gedling into starting to perform and after neat work from Wyvill down the left flank the ball was found at Millers feet and the forward struck home a curling effort from 18 yards.
Coming out all square after the interval the game was evenly contested, although Keyworth were quick to attempt to show thier masculinity when a few challenges went astray. The most humourous part of the half was when Whitham whilst running the line refused to let a Keyworth player take a corner as the ball was out of the arc.
Gedlling were starting to look more accomplished on the ball but it was Keyworth who took the lead. Gedling had other chances to equalise with Miller and Whitham going close.
A disapponting finish to the season, but one which has been successful when looking at the objective from the start of the season, consolodate our position and to keep the club on a substantial solid footing.
