Town Blue’s continued their 11 a-side build up with a win over local rivals Rangers is this friendly at Queensgate on 20^th June.

The Blue’s have recently taken time to warm up in these 11 a-side games and this one was no exception.

Rangers pressured for the first 10 minutes with Dominic Thornton causing the Blue’s defence many problems with his long runs down the left.

The Blue’s had for once most of the squad to choose from and slowly they came into the game with new signing Mario Pickering settling well.

Nathan Cunningham and Lewis Bean on the left linked well as did Pickering and Ashley Sowersby on the right with both pairs feeding James Webb and Jamie Williamson who headed up the Blue’s attack.

Following a good run down the right Sowersby found Webb who took the ball almost to the by-line before attempting to cross to Bean. The ball failed to find Bean but did find the inside of the Rangers post bouncing into the back of the net to give the Blue’s a 1-0 lead.

Sam Stanhope in the Blue’s goal had little to do as the Blue’s defence made up of Grant Dowson, Rob Scott, Jacob Day and Luke Dunne controlled the Rangers attack.

Shortly before half time Webb was freed by Cunningham to run and shoot past the Rangers keeper to extend the Blue’s lead.

In the second half Andrew Booth replaced Sam Stanhope in the Blue’s goal with Jamie Williamson and Ashley Sowersby being replaced by Danny Quigley and Danny Robson.

The second half saw the Blue’s playing good entertaining football without being able to extend their lead.
