Kirklees defeated at the hands of Knaresborough

Christine Curry  Wednesday, March 06, 2002  12:59 GMT

Kirklees visited Knaresborough this week hoping to at least take away 1 point but it just wasn't to be.

Playing a side of eight Kirklees formation of 3-4-1 was chosen but this proved unsuccessful as they seen the Knaresborough forwards striding through on goal every time, indeed Kirklees had this problem last week with North Ferriby, a switch in the defence was all that was needed to slow up the goal tally by playing a sweeper, step up Kathryn Baines at half time to cover this position and what a good job she did. Kirklees knew that there was no way back from a 5-0 score line at half time so they were concentrating on keeping the score as low as possible and the sweeper formation seems to be working for Kirklees.

As per usual, goalkeeper Sara Ginley had another stunning match, making some brilliant saves although worry swept through the squad when she bravely went into rough tackle to retrieve the ball and injured her knee but was able to play on till the end of the match.

Many chances didn't fall to Kirklees, who were without striker Simone Lodge due to her fractured arm. It has to be said that the Knaresborough goalkeeper didn't have much to do though when she was called into play her performance wasn't the greatest.

Kirklees gained ex-manager of Huddersfield Town Ladies, he watch last weeks game against North Ferriby but didn't show up for the latest match. Will Pierre (van DONKEY!) ever show his face again??! only time will tell as Kirklees take on Brigg Town on Sunday. A result is possible in this match, Brigg Town are bottom of the league ath the moment so a big performance may pull in some points for Kirklees.
