Tak for kampen i lørdags. Ærgerligt at dommeren ikke mødte op, men det gik jo fint nok alligevel. Mange tak for champagnen - det var en fornem gestus! |

Aus: Ouch! League star banned after 'finger up bum' incidents In an extraordinary case in Australia, the now infamous John Hopoate, a National Rugby League player with the Wests Tigers, has been banned from the 13-man code for 12 weeks for pushing his fingers into opponents' rectums. Hopoate was fingered by North Queensland Cowboys players Peter Jones and Glenn Morrison who testified that Hopoate had inserted his digits in their anuses during a keenly contested game last Saturday night at the Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville - a venue for the Lions tour in June. Cowboys captain Paul Bowman was another to accuse Hopoate of interferring with his 'saddle area' after a tackle. "I felt fingers. He was pushing up my arse, I was disgusted, I couldn't believe it. If he was a man, he wouldn't do it," said Bowman. Morrison said: "It was dreadful, I had pain. It was like someone was trying to put pressure up there." Hopoate's aptly named counsel Bernard Gross QC, only offered the defence that his client had been administering what is known as "a wedgie". However Jones was certain about what he saw, or rather what he felt, saying: "It was in the anal area. I think I know the difference between a wedgie and someone putting their fingers up my bum." An NRL tribunal imposed the heaviest ban in four seasons on the winger, after hearing more than three hours of elaborate evidence about players grabbing opponents by "the nuts", "the stork" and "the arse". It seems to be a common occurence in the 13-man, testosterone charged Aussie League game. "It happens all the time," concurred Hopoate. "You get wedgies all the time, and jabbed in the stork. I'm a great believer that what happens on the field should stay on the field." Sympathetic Wests coach Terry Lamb estimated that such incidents occur up to 10 times per game. Lamb, who played a record 349 first-grade games between 1980 and 1996, said he had never committed such acts but had been on the receiving end of similar tactics. "There's all types of niggling tactics - wedgies, biting, gouging, grabbing blokes by the nuts," Lamb told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I'm no expert but I've had wedgies. I'm sure the panel has as well. The game goes on." By Pat McLoughlin |
