Club History

Bristol & West Ladies FC started life during 1994, with a request from the EBS (Educational Building Society) in Dublin, for a match for their touring team who were to visit Bristol the following month. Becky Duke and Tina Jones found 12 volunteers who learned each other's names during the warm-up. After a brief summary of the rules, for those who hadn't played before, the EBS, not surprisingly, went on to beat the Bristol & West Ladies 9-0. The bug was with the players though and weekly training began from there on in.
The 1994/1995 season saw the team's numbers flourish and a number of friendlies were played with a return visit to Dublin during 1995. This time the ladies were successful and returned to Bristol with the cup. 1996/1997 season saw the team enter the South West Ladies League. Their first season rather predictably saw the ladies finish at the bottom of the table. Over the coming seasons the league became more and more competitive and the team found themselves struggling at the bottom of the league each season. The Ladies therefore decided to join the Gloucestershire County League for the 2001/2002 season.
Back in 1994 the team was purely made up of Bristol & West employees but over the years has changed its make-up to mainly employees, ex-employees, family and friends. The team is currently coached and managed by the husband of one of the team players - Rich Cormack (pictured below).
