Final Match ends 2-2 against Cup Finalists

Dave Bennett  Saturday, May 05, 2001  12:12 GMT

Farndon's final match of the season finished all square against Divisional Cup Holders and Willie Hall Finalists RHPSSC. With several players being unavailable for the night match, Farndon fielded several reserve players who all played outstandingly well and did not let the club down at all. RHPSSC started well and took a lead after 30mins when Cowling crossed from the byline for the RHPSSC forward to slot past keeper Bayliss. The manager at halftime was confident of scoring in the second half and yet again his prediction proved correct as Longdon reacted quickly to skillfully deflect a Cresswell shot wrong footing the RHPSSC keeper and making the score level. However shortly after Cowling headed a looping header past Bayliss to make it 2-1. But Farndons heads did not go down, Goodrick playing well on the right with his own fan club on the side line was wearing down the ageing RHP defence. Issott was taking control in midfield and the arrival of Duckmanton to add more bite took its toll on RHP when Cresswell headed in with only a few minutes remaining.

Up to Xmas 9 games only 7 points, since then 11 games and 17 points shows that with the new signings and commitment Farndon 1st team have improved. The season has appeared short despite the wet weather due to being knock out in all earlier rounds of each cup but hopefully next season with the players we have and future signings promised the club may once again be pressing for a winners medal.

Thanks to every one who has played for us this season.
