Bradford were denied by a late Christian Karembeu strike which earned Middlesbrough a crucial point as Boro drew 1-1 at Valley Parade.  Karembeu's strike means that Boro now just need to pick up a point at home to West Ham on the last day of the season, to retain their Premiership status.

Bradford dominated the first half from start to finish as Middlesbrough struggled to get into the game after losing key striker Alen Boksic on 22 minutes. The Croatian had to be replaced by Brian Deane after damaging his hamstring, and Boro failed to recover from the setback as Bradford got to grips with the game. Benito Carbone was proving to be a constant threat for Bradford, and the Italian went close to giving his side the lead on two occasions. The striker first of all saw his dipping volley go just wide, before he forced a fine save from Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer with a well taken free-kick. Ashley Ward should have put Bradford in front, but the striker could only shoot tamely at Schwarzer after Robbie Blake had put him in the clear. Bradford deservedly took the lead just before the interval thanks to a rare goal from defender Wayne Jacobs. Jamie Lawrence, who came on after 15 minutes to replace the injured Gareth Whalley, was the creator, when his mazy run and through ball put Jacobs in the clear. With just Schwarzer to beat, Jacobs made no mistake when slotting the ball home. Middlesbrough came out after the interval with more purspose and former Bradford star Dean Windass should have put them back on level terms. But much to the relief of Bradford, Windass could only place his header over the bar after Paul Okon had put in the cross. Carlos Marinelli's shot was then well saved by Gary Walsh before Gunnar Halle cleared Windass' effort off the line. Boro were piling on the pressure and Karembeu grabbed a deserved equaliser just nine minutes from time when he curled a superb 20-yard shot into the top corner of Walsh's net. Boro could have snatched three late points but Deane's shot went just wide at the death. Picture: Wayne Jacobs scores rare goal for City
