Reserves win

Karen Day  Sunday, March 03, 2002  21:34 GMT

Barnsley Ladies Reserves beat local rivals Scunthorpe United 4 - 2.
Barnsley started this game without a recognized goalkeeper due to injuries,so midfielder Jo Vicary stepped in(on which was also her 250th appearance for the club).Barnsley started strongly but it was Scunthorpe who got off the mark first with a break down the left.A good cross split the reds defence leaving it one on one with the keeper giving her no chance.
That gave Barnsley a jolt and the they began to lift their game.A great run down the right by right back Katie Quinn which left defenders standing, resulted in a inch perfect cross for Caz Allott to slot pass the keeper to level the score.
Emma Stevens didnt take long to make it two for Barnsley and just before half time,a fine move which started with the keeper, sent Tracy Allott on a run.A good one-two move left Tracy in front of goal with only the keeper to beat. She made no mistake giving Barnsley a half time lead of 3-1.
The second half started just like the first finished with Barnsley in control. They broke away on numerous occasions but could`nt make it count until forward Emma stevens finished of a fine indivdual run beating the keeper with pace.
Scunthorpe hit back in the last 15mins with alot of pressure and made it count when a shoot from 20yards left the reds keeper stranded. This seemed to panic Barnsley and they lost the confidence that they had played with at the start of the game. But they hung on to win 4-2.
Good performances from Emma Stevens,Katie Quinn and Becki Fletcher.
