BDAS STILL IN THE HUNT FOR TITLE

Layne Walker  Wednesday, August 14, 2002  16:55 GMT

MKOVL Div 2

Smash & Grab 3 Rockets 0
Rockets 1 BDAS 2
Smash & Grab 0 BDAS 3

Team: Anne, Bine, Grenville, Layne, Neil, Polly, Stephen

BDAS lost the toss so had to ref first. It soon became apparent that the Rockets had a weaker team than normal. They actually had one girl who was virtually motionless all night and would only play the ball if completely unavoidable, some of the lads didn't play that well either. Smash were put under a small amount of pressure in the 2nd but other than that it was an easy win.

It was more of the same when we took on the Rockets on in the 2nd set of games. We were all playing smoothly and confidently and took the game to them. It was hard to concentrate sometimes because Rockets were trying to cover for their girls, hitting back courts and 2nd balls over. Nevertheless, we continued to play well into the 2nd set. Halfway new girl Polly came into the fray. Young, good looking, lively.. her Dad's a bit of a weirdo though. The 2nd rally she was on was long and frantic but she wasn't fazed and was doing well. Into the 3rd the same finishing 6 went out. Rockets were determined to try and win one. But we were edging it most of the way. However, the odd poor shot and stroke of misfortune meant we lost 15-13.

Nothing else for it we will just have to give Smash & Grab a whooping. And we did. I cam back on for Polly and we won all 3 sets remarkably easily. Bine and Neil were hitting really well. Grenv and Neil did some excellent serving. Anne and Stephen spread the ball around nicely as ever (most of time deliberately :-) There were some cracking rallys but BDAS usually came out on top. Nice to have Polly on court, she already looks better than the 2 playing for the Rockets!

BDAS have some unfinished business (games) that we will try to sort out for next week but winning 5 sets to 1 in the final 'official' week I believe should have us top of the table. And rightly so I'd say :-)
