COACH ASKS FOR MORE PENETRATTIONLayne Walker Thursday, February 14, 2002 13:23 GMTABBEY LADIES 3 COTTENHAM 0 (25-14 25-12 25-14) TEAM: ANNE, BINE(C), CAZ, FIDEL, GERLINDE, HELENA, HELENE, LLINOS, TESS, ZOE OFFICIALS: SIMON (REFEREE), GERAINT (2ND REFEREE), JEMIMA (SCORER) Not a great deal to say about the game really. We had a really big turn out which was great to see. Cottenham came with just 6 and probably not their best 6. All credit to them for not fighting shy and cancelling the game. Some of our players didn't get much of a game (even when on court!) but it proved useful in getting the setters used to penetrating and the team some general match practice without too much pressure. It was also nice to have a good win after a couple of losses! After a slightly dodgy start to the first set we started to rack up points on our own serve whilst getting it straight back when we lost one. After building up a big lead we found it hard to concentrate and made a few errors but still won fairly comfortably. The second set saw a slight improvement if anything, with the players coming off the bench eager to be part of the action. A great set of serves from Tess piled on the pressure and it was soon all over. The third set we weren't quite so good, with some poor passing off the 1st ball. But Gerlinde, on a bad serving day, killed them on off rattling off 9 straight serves many of which weren't returned. A couple of other worthy mentions.. Tess did a perfect reverse set to.. err no one.. well she is blonde :-), Caz continued with her new found aggression (spending too much time with Simon obviously). But seriously, everyone did some good stuff out there, which should give confidence for the games ahead. Player of the Match goes to ANNE for having a good all round game. One final note.. I really don't know what is so funny about me shouting PENETRATE every time the ball is played into our back court :-) Layne |
