And the Saint’s go marching on!!

Paul Ansell  Thursday, April 12, 2001  11:18 GMT

Saint’s extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 4-1 win over Worthing Thistle Old Boys. Unfortunately the run consists of 4 draws and 2 victories, if only some of those miss chances had been converted then we would be sitting in a far healthier league position.

Full credit must go to Mark Davis for getting a squad of 15 players together for a mid-week game, Thistle were always going to struggled with the fact that they only had 10 players. Saint’s started the game well on a difficult pitch, unfortunately in the early part of the match Saint’s seemed to be restricted to long range shooting with Ansell, Hutchinson, West, Scales and Holloway all having good efforts on goal. As the half time whistle blew Saints came off disappointed to still be at 0-0.

The second half started and within the first 2 minute’s Ansell had a chance to give Saint’s the lead, but somehow managed to miss the target from just inside the box. Then the inevitable happened, with Saint’s messing about with the ball Thistle won possession and went through and scored. However their lead would not last for long. Mark Davis headed home the equalizer from close range. Then after good work from Martin Scales, Chris Parker some how managed to miss from close range. Broadwater added a second through Martin Scales and goals from Ansell and Seymour made it 4-1 to the Saint’s. Late on Adam Holloway was lucky to escape going into the referees note book with a flying two footed studs up challenge on one of there players after losing possession of the ball.

Muppet of the Match – Damien Scales – A close run thing with both Ansell & Parker in contention for the award, but for the 3rd time this season Scales wins the honours after tripping over the ball when clean through on goal in the first half and then when Saint’s were two against one, he managed to over hit a simple pass to his brother by about 50ft.
