Barford Raceway, Streatlam, Barnard Castle, County Durham DL12 8UD Welcome to the homepage of the BARFORD FOXESWe will do our best to bring you all the latest news and photos from Barford Raceway as and when they happen. The man behind the venture KEN MARSHALL was previously involved with Felton Training Track in Northumberland (along with speedway referee Will Hunter)in the late 1970s and early 1980s before ill health caused him to sell Felton to the Dixon family from Newcastle. For many years Ken ran a successful haulage company in Ashington and had many blue chip companies among his clients.  Ill health caused him to sell his business.Ken intends to track a team in the Conference League (speedway's third division) and is looking for riders who are interested. He is very passionate and patriotic about giving British youngsters the opportunity to develop in speedway. He has been involved with developing the juniors at Berwick since 1998 though we thought better of it to ask him what he thought of Berwick promoter Peter Waite's 'foreign policy' for the forthcoming season. Two dozen riders have been in touch already but many more are welcome. If you want the chance to have a skid give Ken a ring on the number below. The speedway track will be constructed inside the existing Hot Rod/Formula 2 racing circuit and measure around 270 metres in length, similar to Arena-Essex/Buxton and a good one to learn on.  The lease owners of Barford Raceway are currently constructing a cover for the back straight to protect spectators from the elements...watch out for the sheep though!  My advice would be, on a summer's evening great....on a normal evening get wrapped up.  As for facilities there is a bar and a cafe where you can get something to eat and drink.  There is also ample car parking space and no need to worry about it not being there when you return!  Although the track is situated in a rural location it does attract excellent attendances for BRISCA F2 racing.  Admission for Conference League fixtures will be £5 for adults.  Darlington is the nearest biggest town but accommodation is available in Barnard Castle if you want to stay for a weekend.  We personally recommend a trip to Middleton-in-Teesdale and High Force which is situated in some of the most beautiful and remote countryside up north. Barford Raceway is situated on the A668 Barnard Castle to Staindrop road about two miles set back off the road on the right hand side. It's situated on the site of an old army camp.  The area around it is situated in some of the most beautiful unspoilt countryside. Barnard Castle is a lovely market town and Middleton-in-Teesdale is only a few miles further down the road. LETTERS OF SUPPORTTo make sure that speedway at Barford becomes a reality we need as many speedway fans based all around the world to write letters of support.  There are one or two obstacles to be cleared - the training track will go ahead for definite but to stage Conference League speedway is a different matter. If you could address your letters to the following person:Mr Anthony Seaman (Director of Development) Teesdale District Council, Barnard Castle, County Durham Mr Seaman is 100% FOR the introduction of Conference League speedway at BarfordHowever there are one or two who oppose the ideaPlease send all letters of support directly to KEN MARSHALL (see telephone/fax number and e-mail address listed below) BARFORD FOXES CONTACTSIf you are requiring details of convenient times to train or just want more information relating to Barford then in the first instance contact the following people:Ken Marshall  01670  816624 (Fax 0167) 858191E-Mail:Cyril Whitfield 01325 352312 or 01833 630113THE PLACE OF PACE IN 2002??BARFORD FOXES SPEEDWAY TRAINING SCHOOLSundays FortnightlyWant to be a speedway rider ?????10am till 4pmLunch 12.30 till 1.30RIders with own Bikes £20Hire Bikes (Laydowns)Including all racewear£65Junior Bikes6yrs to 14 yrsIncluding all race gear50cc - £25150cc - £30250cc - £40Modern Junior BikesInsurance £3.50 extra
