Westlea Entertain Cup Holders

Westlea Wanderers were today given a home draw against last years Birmingham Sunday Cup Winners, Toll End in the 3rd round of this years competition. The two teams last met 3 years ago when both teams played in the Sunday Vase. The match will take place on Sunday 16th December. The full 3rd round draw as follows:

Westlea Wanderers came from 2-1 down to beat Birmingham side English Oak 5-2 in the 2nd round of the Birmingham Sunday Cup. The home side got off to the perfect start with Brian Agar scoring after 10 minutes. English Oak then scored twice before Paul Frost headed in the equaliser after good work from Harj Dhesi and Nick Mort. Brian Agar then scored Westlea's third before half time. The second half was all Westlea and they went further in front, when Paul Frost scrambled in his second to make it 4-2. The advantage then went to Westlea after English Oak had a player sent off, with substitute Neale Perry scoring the 5th. It should have been more for the home side with them striking the post on four occasions.

Westlea were denied three points today after a 2-2 with bottom of the table Potters Green. Westlea led twice in the game with a double from striker Neale Perry. The game was marred by a bad head injury early in the second half to Ashley Walker who was taken to hospital needing 4 stitches.
Beeston & Duff Strikes

Goals in each half today gave Westlea a 2-0 victory against Potters Green at Woodway Park School. Martyn Beeston scored his first of the season in the first half when he took on three defenders and shot past the keeper. Adrian Duff made sure of the points when he tapped in from close range late in the second half.
Westlea Beaten By Late Strikes

Westlea Wanderers were today beaten in the 'David Schofield Cup' by Premier Two outfit Radford Social 3-2. In a closely contested game, Radford took the lead early in the first half and could have doubled but for a fine goal-line clearance by Kevin Ariss. In the second half, Westlea made a double substitution and one of them made a sudden impact when Neale Perry rounded the keeper to score. In a tactical switch, Westlea defender Andy Dix was pushed up front and he lobbed the keeper to put Westlea in front. But with 2 minutes left Radford snatched victory the first from a header and the second from the penalty spot.
BCFA Sunday Cup Draw

The draw for the second round of the BCFA Sunday Cup Draw Round 2 has been made and ties will be played on Sunday November 18th 2001.
