Squandered chances nearly costly!!Paul Quinn Monday, November 19, 2001 12:56 GMT
IC squandered two clear cut chances on Sunday and they nearly were so costly against rock-bottom Dodworth.
IC again were a changed outfit with Paul Quinn out again with a calf injury that could see him miss the Meltham clash, and both Adam Bell and Alex Kalinowski relegated to the bench. O'Donnell re-claimed a starting position, and both Lunn and Buggy maintained a first eleven spot.
It was Dodworth that looked the brighter through out and although they the failed to retain much possesion they were much more the competitive side. Chances were few and far between, in the first ever goaless game including Irish Centre FC. The clear cut chances fell to Lunn on 30 minutes who was denied by an impressive Dodworth goalie, and a Dodworth striker who shot wide from 12 yards.
The second half looked as though the Huddlers would dominate but again they lacked cutting edge in the final third and this nearly proved so costly as Dodworth looked the more likely to make the breakthrough. But on 70 minutes Bell went down in the box and was awarded a penalty, he took responsibility and although the penalty was struck well enough the keeper made a great save and the save from the re-bound was even better.
Frustration grew and in a vain attempt to clinch all three points manager Chris Helliwell changed things but to no avail, the Huddlers had to be happy with the point but full credit to a spirited Dodworth, hopefully this will be a warning for next weeks tough tie against the on-form Meltham.
