Powerful performance puts Colts back in contention

Ian Young  Tuesday, April 17, 2001  08:22 GMT

Capel A started the game very positively and had most of the play early on kicking down the slope. Our confidence was beginging to grow following a run of indifferent results. Stuart was getting some good possession and Mattie Barnes was making himself available wide on the right. We forced several corners but could not get the breakthrough. The defence were coping fairly well although we needed a little more composure on the ball as we were not in any danger. Mid way through the first half we were awarded a free kich 5 yards inside their half. Kevin struck the kick which bounced in the area and to everones amazement it went in off the inside of the post. We started to push Framlingham back and with some good movement on the right Stuart moved forward with the ball sending a shot past the oncoming keeper to make it 0-2. Zack and Kevin were pulling their defence about and Mattie and Stuart were dominating mid field. Another good movement down the right saw Kevin receive the ball in the box and shot with his left foot only to see the ball beat the keeper and come back off the post. Half time 0-2 up and from the Kick off saw Fram come back into the game putting the defence under pressure. The team had to start to compete and win challenges in order that we did not allow them back into the game. A long ball through our mid field was mistimed by Daniel and in trying to make amends challenged their forward, both fell to the floor and the ref awarded a spot kick. George not really having much to do however had to pick the ball out of the net following a fiercely taken spot kick. The next few minutes saw Daniel and Liam at their best and kept out the Fram attack. We wethered the storm and through hard work started to gain more of the ball. A through ball by Kevin put Zach in the clear with the keeper to beat and opted to shoot early which was easly gathered. Futher good play saw Kevin broght down on the edge of the box and from the resulting kick hit the bar and go over. Soon after Zach was put through again and made no mistake putting us up 1-3. Another free kick was awarded right on the corner of the box when Mattie was unfairly challenged after beating two men. They lined up a wall a Kevin with an pin point chip found Zach at the far post with an easy tap in to make it 1-4. Capel were not finished and were hungry for another and with a great three man move saw the ball go from back to front and with a straight race between their keeper and Kevin saw the latter knock the ball passed their keeper. Zach who had supported well ran onto the ball to roll it into an empty net to register his hat-trick and Capel's 5th. It was a good solid performance mainly dominated by our mid field pair and supported all round by the others. A good team effort where everone contributed and we need to carry this into all our remaining games. Won 1-5
