Hawkes Held In Thrilling ClashAimar Wednesday, May 29, 2002 09:21 GMT
Chesneys' Hawkes 2 v 2 Up 'n' Atom
Shaw
Rhodes
Chesneys Hawkes were held to a 2-2 draw by league leaders Up 'n' Atom in a thrilling, but bad tempered clash.
Atom seemed determined to kick any Hawkes player from the off, and the game always had an edge to it from then on.
The match was very even, with both sides creating good opportunities. Hawkes took the lead when Matt Shaw slotted home from an acute angle for his 5th of the season.
Hawkes could have extended the lead, Rogerson and Shaw both hitting the woodwork, before Atom equalised after some sloppy defending on the left.
Immediately Hawkes restored their lead, with a freak goal, as John Rhodes mis hit pass from the halfway line somehow trickled into the bottom corner through a mass of players.
Rogerson made some good saves to deny Atom in the closing minutes, but a mistake at the back gifted the equaliser to Atom, as Tracey pushed forward Hawkes gave the ball away and Atom had men over to score in the last minute.
Chesneys Hawkes: ROGERSON 9, Bruce 7, Rhodes 7, Tracey 7, Pickford 6, Barrett 7, Shaw 8
