Hawkes Destroy Raw DealJames Tracey Monday, May 13, 2002 22:34 GMTRaw Deal 1 V 5 Chesneys Hawkes Barrett Tracey Rhodes Shaw (2) Chesneys Hawkes delivered a definative warning to the other teams in Division 2 with an outstanding 5-1 hammering of table topping Raw Deal. Tracey stuck with the same team that won last week, apart from Pickford replacing the injured Turton, and the team gave a performance that will be hard to top this season. The scoreline totally reflected Hawkes dominance, only heroics from Raw Deals keeper kept the score from hitting double figures. Hawkes were defensively outstanding and totally snuffed out any threat from Raw Deal, who had hit 13 goals in thier first two games. John Bruce was again magnificent, marshalling the defence alongside Rhodes and Pickford. Upfront Matt Shaw put in a man of the match performance, quite simply untouchable. Hawkes took the lead through John Rhodes, and went two up after Tracey fired home his 4th of the season. Raw Deal rallied but never created any openings, and were hit on the break by a Niel Barrett strike, his first of the season. Hawkes were in control and the keeper was forced to make great saves from Barrett, Bruce, Tracey and Shaw before a superb Shaw double killed the game, Raw Deal snatched a conselation goal in between. Manager Traceys said "That was brilliant. Total credit to the lads, they worked thier socks off. we are looking for promotion now, and we've set our standard."
