Meadow Sports 2 v 3 NORTH KINGSTON COLTSR.Barrs-James Monday, February 04, 2002 21:26 GMT
Kingston climbed to the top of the Premier division with this sterling win at a wet and windy Woking on Sunday last. Facing a rejuvenated Meadow Sports outfit that belied their current league status Colts came from behind to claim all three points. The Blues started off in spritely fashion with Stuart Barrs-James's left foot drive
bringing a fine save out of the keeper and minutes later the same players shot on the run just cleared the cross bar.Meadow's first real attack produced a goal when the ball was run out of defence instead of being kicked clear. The resultant interception enabled the ball to be returned into the danger area where Kelvin was on hand to turn the ball past a stranded Gary Curry.
Kingston responded well and when the ever dangerous Mark England out ran the home defence the equaliser looked a distinct possibility, however his well struck shot struck the foot of the post and he was unable to convert the rebound past the stranded keeper.Half time came with Colts unable to translate their superiority into goals, however unlike last week in the second half they reaped the reward their efforts deserved.Ten minutes in and the live wire Tony Jenkinson rose to meet a Barrs-James corner and power a firm downward header into the net.Kingston maintained their grip on the game and scored again after a further five minutes when forward pressure forced the Meadow defence into hesitancy and a strong Barrs-James challenge forced the ball away from the keeper leaving him with the routine task of knocking it past the defender into the unguarded net.Not content Colts extended their lead five minutes later when a beautiful one touch move ended with a one/two between Barrs-James and England leaving the latter to drive a calculated finish into the bottom right hand corner of the net.A defensive mix up involving a keeper of the Curry variety gifted Kelvin with his second goal of the game and gave Meadow a glimmer of hope, but Colts maintained their composure to claim a well earned three points. We must now miss the next two weeks before returning against West Ewell Colts and hopefully maintaining a reinforced title challenge.
