Hersham 1 v 6 NORTH KINGSTON COLTSR.Barrs-James Monday, January 14, 2002 21:14 GMT
Colts maintained their championship credentials with this impressive win at Hersham last Sunday.Travelling with a smaller than usual squad the well balanced team quickly slipped into top gear and their slick passing and movement soon created openings. The opening goal came after ten minutes when the dangerous Mark England was brought down in the box and Tony Jenkinson confidently despatched the penalty.Kingston continued to score at regular intervals during the first half. Two Stuart Barrs-James corners were converted, the first a Tom Stuckey volley at the far post followed by a powerful Jenkinson header. In between Dan Darby cleverly took advantage of a poorly organised wall to slot home a free kick.Hersham were offered a glimmer of hope right at the end of the half when an unusual defensive error led to a goal, however Colts maintained their control of the match in the second half comfortably dealing with the Hersham attacks and adding a further two goals to their tally.Mark Mackie reached double figures for the season with a tight angled near post shot following a typical strong run, while England continued his quest for full sharpness by despatching a poor goalkick back past the stranded keeper. If Kingston can maintain this level of performance they must now be considered serious title contenders and now look ahead to the visit of bottom of the table Meadow Sports this Sunday.
