Holmesdale 2 v 0 NORTH KINGSTON COLTSStuart Barrs-James Monday, January 07, 2002 13:59 GMT
Colts bade a disappointing farewell to the County Cup last Sunday.Having to travel to Kent to play a team currently playing in the Kent Youth League
in the Surrey Cup made no sense at all,but it must be said that Kingston mainly contributed to their own downfall. With injured players Mark England and Theo Coyne back in the starting line up hopes were high. However after 30 minutes play and seven (no exageration) clear cut chances spurned it was on the cards that Holmesdale would turn the tables and nick a goal.A speculative cross brushed the top of a Holmesdale head taking all the pace off the ball and everybody stood in disbelief as the ball found it's way over the line via the foot of the post.Colts had another chance to score prior to half time, instead Holmesdale doubled their lead after a tricky run down the left lead to a cross being half cleared only to fall invitingly at the feet of an oncoming forward. The second half was all hustle and bustle with neither side looking likely to score and our last ever cup run petered out.Nick Christie yet again stood out as our best player
and for one deserved better than being on the losing side. It's an old cliche but goals win games and unusually for us we did not convert any of the chances made.We now only have the League to play for and need to lift ourselves for the challenges that lie ahead in an increasingly competitive division.
