Eleven Wickets Against 8-Man H&H

Jim Nicholson  Wednesday, June 06, 2001  09:43 GMT

I don't quite know what it will do for this season's
averages but EUSCC bowlers had a fine time on
Tuesday night when they managed to take 11 wickets
against Scottish Home & Health, despite only 8 of
the opposition turning up!

Chris and Jim opened the bowling in the 18-over
match and proved to be EUSCC's most expensive
bowlers as the H&H openers made a solid enough start.
However, both finished their spells with double-
wickets maidens which changed the complexion of
the game totally. It was decided that H&H should
bat for the full 18 overs, with second innings
allowed, so as to give everyone a proper game
and to set us a target. Richard C and Ewen came
into the attack and both took a wicket (Rich's first
for the club) and Nick was unlucky not to get one
in his sole over. Dave F and Raghu finished the innings
and each got wickets, as well as a run out off the
last ball. H&H had made it to 40 off their overs,
for the loss of 11 wickets, one unfortunate batsman
collecting a pair.

The EUSCC reply was opened by Paul D and Martin and
they sensibly went about accumulating the 2 or 3 runs
an over required to reach the target. Paul certainly
had to rein himself at times as he resisted the
temptation to dispatch every bad ball to the
boundary. Both batsmen went with the score on 23, and
both to lbw decisions. Dave B and Richard replaced them
and kept the score ticking along. Unfortunately
Richard didn't get to see the winning runs scored
as he was dismissed for 7, instead Nick was at the
non-strikers end when Dave hit the winning 4.

A good and friendly match which everyone seemed to
enjoy - apologies to those who didn't get a great
deal of batting or bowling - your time will come.
