Winning Start to the SeasonJim Nicholson Monday, April 30, 2001 08:55 GMTEUSCC's Division 5 campaign got off to a winning start last Saturday in a low-scoring game against Old Contemptibles at Peffermill. After losing the toss and being put in to bat, EUSCC struggled to 105-6 off 47 overs against only 10 fielders. Paul B and Ken got off to a solid start and Stewart hit a few good shots in compiling a top-scoring 22, but otherwise we struggled against accurate bowling on a wet pitch. OCCC obviously felt confident of reaching their target as they played very positively from the off. Unfortunately for them they also lost wickets regularly against some excellent bowling from Chris and Paul D. Despite a stutter when Paul D took himself off and the change bowlers didn't find their rhythm, EUSCC kept the pressure on and Paul came back into the attack to wrap up the tail (including their rather handy 11th man who turned up at about 6pm) and finish with a 5-wicket haul, as OCCC finished 20 runs short of their target. |
