AFC Westvale v Aztec FC (6/1/02)

Jez Horgan  Monday, January 07, 2002  16:09 GMT

The New Year started off with a good performance from 10 men Aztec (an improvement on the last two games with only 8 players). Gary was making a cameo upfront and caused early problems with four good chances. The passing was crisp in places and Westvale were more and more frustrated by a solid defensive performance. However it was Westvale who made the breakthrough in the 44th minute with a lucky goal. Both teams came out looking for a goal but Westvale struck first and their midfield dynamo beat five players and the keeper to score a special goal. Heads dropped and before long it was 3-0 to the home side. But Aztec were playing for pride and weren't prepare to leave it at that. Simon, who was having a storming game all over the pitch picked up the ball and headed goalwards and spanking it through the keeper and into the net. The passion was rising and Daz crossed a hopeful ball into the box which fell at Rob's feet. Unlike the expected outcome Rob had other ideas and unleashed a shot, on target, which the keeper could only flap at into the goal. Despite a frantic last ten minutes ten men Aztec could not penetrate the backside of the Westvale defence and the score finished 3-2.
