Through to next round

by reporter  Friday, April 26, 2002  22:34 GMT

In a hard fought game played at Fleetlands F.C., Gosport Borough eased through to the quarter final of the Southern Region Chairmans Cup with a 2-0 win over Milton Keynes Wanderers. In bright, warm sunshine on a hard surface, Gosport soon settled into a rhythm and took the game to their opponents. Early on there were chances for Kim Masterton, Amy Swallow, Gemma Woodford and Noreen Masterton, but it took 37 minutes before the deadlock was finally broken when Mandy Hoyland turned in a Swallow cross. In the second half Gosport continued to press but could not kill the game off. On the break Milton Keynes had a couple of chances but keeper Nicky Cook made a vital save and Sarah Rickman completed the clearance. Finally with 10 minutes remaining skipper Kim Masterton rounded off an all action performance with the second clinching goal which brought sighs of relief all round. In the quarter final Gosport now face a tough away tie against Portsmouth Reserves.
Team - N Cook, S Rickman, T Savage, J Way, H Stacey, G Woodford, M Hoyland, K Masterton, A Swallow, N Masterton, E Adams. Subs - T Costello, N Ovenden.
