Jess poised to sign new deal

Adam Bell  Monday, June 04, 2001  07:59 GMT

Eoin Jess has indicated that he is poised to accept City's improved contract offer after rejecting the first deal made to him by the club. The Scottish midfielder is currently away on holiday, but has been in contact with the club and his agent over the weekend, and now seems set to agree to remain with City on a permanent basis. Jess impressed on his three-month loan spell at Valley Parade prompting The Bantams to begin talks to sign him, but City were initially unable to offer him adequate personal terms. However, Geoffrey Richmond earlier this week revealed that the club's wage budget for next season would be increased from £5million to £7.5million, suggesting that an improved deal could be offered to Jess together with City's other out-of-contract stars, Stuart McCall and Robert Molenaar. That seems to be the case and Jess is now on the verge of signing a three-year deal with the club. He confirmed: "My agent is talking to the club at the moment and we should be able to finalise something in the not too distant future. "I want to stay at Bradford - it's just a case of sorting out the fine details."
