City to discuss transfers

Adam Bell  Tuesday, May 15, 2001  08:54 GMT

Jim Jefferies and Geoffrey Richmond will meet in the next 24 hours to assess the current squad and to work out who will be moving on this summer.
Much of Jefferies' planning depends on whether Benito Carbone leaves or not, but it is unlikely he will go anywhere unless another club offers him a similar deal to that which he has with City, even though it means playing at a lower level.
Lee Sharpe should complete his £500,000 move to Portsmouth this week, whilst Dean Saunders and Billy McKinlay are expected to leave as they are out of contract, and Gunnar Halle and Ian Nolan may be on their way too, even though they still have time left on their contracts.
Nothing final will be decided just yet though; part of Jefferies' planning will depend on whether Matt Clarke and Peter Atherton make their loan moves to Bolton and Birmingham respectively permanent, although Atherton's three month loan deal expires prior to the play-off final, and it cannot be extended.
Trevor Francis is considering making the move permanent should Birmingham reach the final, whilst Clarke would be able to play for Bolton should they reach the final.
Jefferies is looking to sign three or four players during the summer, with further additions expected to follow before Christmas.
