Dino Mennillo given Bradford trialAdam Bell Friday, May 04, 2001 10:16 GMT
City are giving a trial to Australian winger Dino Mennillo who currently plays Down Under for leading NSL side Wollongong Wolves. Jim Jefferies declared that he would be casting his net far and wide in a bid to bolster the squad during the summer, and as true as his word, he is looking in Australia. Mennillo is having trials at the club, and he comes with a decent pedigree from Wollongong Wolves, who were the 2000 champions of the Australian NSL. He moved there at the start of last year from the Auckland Kingz, and his signing was seen as something of a coup. His first season with the Wolves was an outstanding one, but he has struggled with injury and suspension this season and has not made the same impact as in his first year. Six years ago he helped Australia win the Under-20s Youth World Cup, and he scores plenty of goals from midfield too, averaging one every five games in his career Down Under. Not surprisingly he has an Italian heritage, so even though he is not an Australian international, there would not be a problem over a work permit should Jefferies pursue his interest. The 25-year-old has made 150 appearances in the NSL, and he says it is his ambition to play overseas, although he is a keen Liverpool fan.
