Newcastle & District Welfare League

N.Y. North Tyneside Supplies 10 - 1 Interpon Bensham Arms

Interpon Bensham Arms players new they were in for a long 90 minutes before the game kicked off against North Tyneside Supplies, as only 9 players turned up. Playing with 3 at the back at one up front, it was hoped that the midfield could plug away and see if anything could be gained from the match. The first half was played against the wind, with the back 3 pushing up and playing the offside trap as much as possible. On the whole, this worked, and the opposition were getting frustrated as they were repeatedly caught offside. Eventually though, the breakthrough came and was quickly followed by a second.

Interpon fought back and scored themselves, with good work from Coates & Humphrey allowing Hud to put past the home keeper. 3 more goals for the home side follwed before half-time, the first a lob over keeper French who was in no-mans-land, and then an own goal from Storey, who deflected in a cross past French who was coming off his line to cut out the cross.

The second half began brightly for Interpon, but soon it was clear that the legs were tiring as North Tyneside continued to break free and rack up the goals. Mulligan chased back repeatedly to put off strikers who were clean through, whilst the rest of the team kept their heads up and battled constantly.

Despite all efforts though, North Tyneside did end up with double-figures, and Interpon will hope to field a full team in their next game, away to Wincomblee next Saturday.
