Posh Ladies slump to 2-0 defeatMaria Rudd Tuesday, March 12, 2002 11:41 GMT
Posh Ladies search for a striker continues after a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Lichfield Diamonds in the Midland Combination League.
Despite dominating the tie for heavy periods, the city side was punished by a toe punt that trickled past keeper Claire Ireson and a direct free-kick given after a clumsy challenge.
The ladies worked hard to reduce the deposit and had numerous chances to settle the tie but had a goal disallowed; a penalty claim waived away after captain Kate Holmes was fouled in the area; missed an easy chance from two yards out and a last-ditch goal-line clearance.
Manager Maria Rudd, said: "We are a good side with some great players but unless you put the effort in you cannot expect to get a result.
"There were too many players having an off day and in this league you can’t afford to include players who put in one good game in seven.
"We have four games remaining and after this I will widen my search for new players for next season."
The ladies have been dealt a further blow with the loss of forward Nicki Kuch who sustained a knee injury after falling awkwardly in the Lichfield game.
Posh travel to third placed Parkgate on Sunday looking to avenge a 4-0 defeat suffered earlier in the season.
