The future's bright, the future's orange.

The end of another season, my fourth at PSV.  A somewhat disappointing one, considering we had every opportunity to do well.  Starting the season with two draws against teams who eventually came 1st and 2nd in the league - Norton 'B' and Clifton Arms respectively - we really could have given the other teams in the league a run for their money.  But inconsistency was our main problem (being a Spurs fan I'm used to it) and we floundered against opposition who we really should have buried.  The team that finshed 7th in the league (All England FC) actually managed to take 4 points from their two games against us.  This is a team that played most of one of the games with only 10 men...not because one was sent off or injured, but because only 10 turned up!!!
We never had a problem like that over the course of the season.  Usually between 13 and 16 players turned up for every game, giving manager Dave Little regular selection headaches, and he even toyed with a 3-5-2 formation early on in the season.  Unfortunately, as many of us found out, it's not as easy as it should be playing in a formation like that.
One thing PSV did prove this year is that we are not easy to beat.  In our 22 games this season, we lost 9, but interestingly enough we were only beaten convincingly (by more than two goals) twice, and we only failed to score in one game.  It is only our cup exit to Lloyd Park Panthers that really sticks out as an embarrassing result.
We progressed well to the final of the Presidents league cup against Multicultural Utd FC.  A penalty shoot-out (our first ever, I'm told) following a 4-4 AET draw to the then leaders of the league, Postmac, which we won 5-3, Rhodes, Drummond, Dean, Mitchell and Tottem all netting from the spot for PSV.  This ensured a home tie against the bottom placed team, Purley Way, which we won convincingly 5-0, goals from Mitchell (2), Drummond (2) and the unlikely left big toe of Dan McCann from all of 18 yards!  A grand day out at the ground of Banstead Athletic FC awaited us.
Preparation is always the key with PSV and we went into the game on the back of two defeats, having let in 10 goals in those two games.  Priceless!  The starting XI comprised:  Zouganelis, Tompkins, Jones (B), Rhodes, McCann, Mitchell (capt), Dean, Jones (R), Baker, Drummond, and Webster, with Bailey, Lee, Hills, Warrilow and Gilford on the bench.  Going 0-2 down after exactly 3 mins 03 secs is never a good start to a game and it was an uphill struggle from then.  Looking back it could easily be said that Lady Luck was not sitting with the PSV team that day.  Once Shaun Webster had pulled it back to 1-2 with a beautiful left foot shot from just inside the area, PSV hit the woodwork THREE times and had a blatant penalty turned down by the referee.  As we were pushing forward for the equaliser, we were caught on the break and in possession three times and the pacey Multicultural Utd forwards punished us.  (If I EVER again hear someone going 'Boooooooooooooooooo' after scoring against us, I really don't care, I WILL kick the living crap out of them, and I don't think I'll be the only member of the PSV team to have that opinion!).
In true Cup Final style manager Dave Little threw on an extra forward in the shape of Rikki Bailey and amazingly enough with a few minutes to go, Webster made a run to the left of the box and squared for Bailey to blast the ball into the net past the helpless Munticultural keeper.  A case of too little too late though and we went down 2-5.  Unfortunately Multicultural were far from humble in their victory celebrations and it did leave a sour taste in the mouths of the losing team.  Especially as our opponents were so disorganised they had to borrow the PSV change strip shorts and socks to play in!  Losing to a team like that is truly gutting.

STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!!

Multicultural United have been STRIPPED of the President's Cup Trophy!!  It appears that they were fielding ineligible players (ringers) in the semi-final AND final.  By default therefore....

Keep browsing past this site for updates on the close season.  New signings, new merchandise, we're even thinking of buying one of those Man Utd style reversible kits.  It'll have 'Chat House' on the front, and 'esuoH tahC' on the reverse!  Now THAT'S INNOVATIVE!!!!
