PARKER MENTIONS MIDDLESBROUGH!

Steve Harland  Saturday, January 05, 2002  18:51 GMT

FORMER Middlesbrough captain SHANE PARKER is featured as the rider profile in this week's edition of the Speedway Star - and it is obvious that Shane hasn't forgotten us!

The two seasons Shane rode for us in 1995 and 1996 were not our best by any stretch of the imagination and crowds were well down on previous seasons, but when asked the question 'Best Club Ridden For' - Shane replied, "I really enjoyed last season at Peterborough and Middlesbrough was just terrific. It's such a shame that place folded."

So there you have it, straight from the horses mouth, despite having ridden for Ipswich, Hull, King's Lynn and Belle Vue (all Elite League clubs!), Shane still thinks of his time at Cleveland Park as his most fondest. But to put the record straight for visitors to the website. Middlesbrough didn't fold - the land on which the stadium stood was owned by elderly greyhound enthsiasts and it was they who sold the stadium to the neighbouring college next door.

All this is now in the past and in 2002 we look forward to racing at a new stadium in the Teesside area - with or without the greyhound people.
