Newport Cycle Speedway Club @ Swindon 21st April Match report by James Turner
Newport Cycle Speedway team got off to the best possible start this weekend at Swindon with Newport riders coming first in the under 8's under 12's and under 14's.
~Under 8's & Under 10's~
In the under 8's and under 10's the crowd were entertained by future stars Josh Davies and Aaron Hughes the latter racing to a supurb maximum. While girl racer Rebecca Davies wasn't going to let the boys take all the glory with some excellent rides mostly from the back keeping the crowd on their feet. The under 10's event was won by Newports own Aaron Hughes while the under 12's was won by Exeter's Tom Reid.
~Under 12's~
In the under 12's the three Newport riders Rhys Godsall, Kieron Jones and Ian Mayho all shone with the latter racing to a 16 ponit max and winning the A final ahead of Exeter's Ben Walton and Dominic Mcrae with Newport rider Kieron Jones taking 4th position in the first under 12's final of the year. While in the B final Newport debutant Rhys Godsall raced away to a 1st position.
~Under 14's~
An exciting under 14's meeting saw Newport finish 1,2,3 with Nicky Evans taking the spoils. The meeting started of perfectly for Newport with Newport finishing in first position in the first six races. For Newport Ryan Hughes had a brilliant meeting with Chris Davies having his best meeting so far with a brilliant 13 points. Exeter also gave a good fight in this meeting with the final being spectacular. Lining up at the tapes were Exeter's Sam Foley, Newport's James Turner, Nicky Evans and Ryan Jones. Nicky Evans again pulled away while Ryan Jones had a good tussle with him. At the back of the race James Turner and Sam Foley  battled for third place both elbow to elbow for 3 laps and when it looked like Sam Foley had snatched third place Newports James Turner drove up the inside of him on the back straight holding him out to the line.
~Under 16's~
In the under 16's Newport were represented by Matthew Davis and James 'Evo' Evans. Both riders gave a good fight with James Evans suffering a nasty collision in the C final, chasing the first two riders one of them fell leaving Evo no option but to do an 'Evil Knievil Style jump with the fallen rider being used as a ramp! With no riders injured they both returned to the tapes with James fininshing third. In the B final Newport's Matthew Davis finished third.
