Noosa lose top clash
Noosa 1 Kawana 2
In a hard fought match league leaders Kawana edged out Noosa to remain top of the league. In a tempestuous first half an hour, both sides had chances but failed to put them away. The best for Noosa was when Wes Flieter put over the bar after going one-on-one with the keeper. With five minutes left in the half a Michael Williams header skimmed the bar and one minute later Carl Harrison put one wide from close range. But with just two minutes of the half remaining, Nathan Kunst scored for Kawana and the visitors went into the break one up.
The second half started in much the way the first half ended and Kawana were unlucky not to extend their lead after a couple of defensive lapses put the Lions under pressure. Kawana did increase their lead however when a Shane Pearson shot after ten minutes doubled the visitors advantage. Noosa showed a lot of determination to get back into the game but Kawana’s off-side trap was working well. Most of play was concentrated in the middle third of the field and Noosa tried a few long balls, up field. One pin point pass from Steve Luxford found young forward Tim Standley and he was able to slot the ball past the advancing keeper to put the Blues back in the game. But unfortunately the Noosa forwards could not penetrate the Kawana defence again and the game finished with a loss for the home side.
