Draw away on Saturday in keenly fought game

STEPHEN MORRIS  Monday, July 02, 2001  08:03 GMT

Castle travelled to Oswestry to face Cae Glas who at the start of play were level on points with us.
Castle won the toss and inserted the home team who struggled to start with on 26-2 off 9 overs, but with the Castle not displaying their usual ruthless streak in the field dropped 5 catches including opening batsman Gareth Edgerton being dropped 3 times, he ended up on 49, and then no.7 batsman Tim Nunnerley bludgeoned 57 not out, to take the home side onto 207-6 off their 50 overs.
Castle's innings started very badly with Richard Whately being run out for 2 (SORRY RICH!!), and then Richie Fifield perishing after stopping his shot and dollying a catch to mid off, we were up the creek and nearly without a paddle on 10-2.
But then Stephen Morris (40) and Ed Williams (34) added 76 for the 3rd wicket, @ 86-3 it was looking a bit better but then we slipped to 114-5, we were then rescued by Andrew Lewis with his maiden half century for the Club (55 not out), and also a useful 22 from Jake Cintra who also took 2 catches in the field, when Jake perished in the 48th over the run chase was called off and we settled for a losing draw picking up 10 points as against the home sides 16 points, but a good contest in the end finishing @ 8.30pm !!
