TEAMS LINE UP TO FACE HMR!
OK...the new season is getting closer all the time and the good news is that our Friendly Fixture List is just about complete! As I write today, we have FIVE matches confirmed. The only date we may be stuck for is Wed 22 August, when our home pitch at the school is available for the only time before the season starts. But if all five of the other fixtures are filled, then we don't need to have another one, although it would have been nice to get a feel of our home pitch before the 'real' stuff begins!
Here is a rough guide to the games already sorted:
SUNDAY JULY 29:
STICKLAND VS HMR
AT: STICKLAND, 3PM KICK OFF.
Looking back at the Tesco site, I found the write up from when we last played Stickland, on 30 August 2000. We only had ten players, including James Herring, plus one of their bods! James Banks was our scorer in a 1-3 defeat but we all know that a full team would have beaten them. This will be our chance in the first HMR match!
This date was to have been our 4th and final week of training but I assume that you would all prefer to play a game! We wont be expecting too much here though and will try a few things out.
SUNDAY 5 AUGUST:
HMR VS SHIP INN WOOL
AT: STICKLAND, 10.30AM K.O
A late change to our friendly fixture programme
sees Division One side Ship Inn travel to Stickland. You will all know their keeper, Adie Stinchcombe, who was the man of the match in the Stour Park Rangers vs Badgers match. He will be difficult to beat, as will the rest of the team in what should be a close game.
SUNDAY 12 AUGUST:
HMR VS RISING SUN
AT: STICKLAND, 10.30AM K.O
The Rising Sun will be a good test of our standards. Last season, they finished last in Div 3, so we can see how we compare. That is assuming they will have a lot of the same players!! They could, have course, signed on loads of top quality lads since then!
SUNDAY 19 AUGUST:
HMR VS PALACE COURT FC
AT: STICKLAND, 10.30AM
Palace Court are based in Marnhull and are one of the most forward thinking teams in Dorset. They produce programmes for just about all of their games and also have an online club shop! They play in the Blackmore Vale League and have two sides at the moment. They have just confirmed their visit to Stickland and have offered to host us in a 'return leg' later in the season. Again, another good test against a long established club: one which we hope to learn from.
SUNDAY 26 AUGUST
HMR VS HAMWORTHY LIONS
AT: STICKLAND, 10.30AM K.O
This should be our hardest friendly of the lot! The Lions won Div 3 last season and so are our benchmark for the coming campaign! We all know Dave Hughes is a wholehearted competitor and so expect the rest of the team to be like that, as well as having no little skill.
All matches in August are due to be reffed by our old mate Malcolm Driffield!
Our first League match will almost certainly be played on September 2. This is Phils' birthday!! So I am hoping that all concerned will be ok to play in this game with not too big a hangover!!
