Clarke seals comeback, in another struggle

Paul Quinn  Monday, November 05, 2001  14:07 GMT

The match reports on this website must now seem a bit repetative with the Huddlers again playing poorly yet managing to claim another three points.  Once again the bhoys in green took command and John-Paul Kitterick, who his establishing himself once again in the first XI, slotted the ball cooly under the body of the advancing goalkeeper.

But once again the Huddlers became complacent and took their foot of the gas, and lack of communication at the back saw Chris Keady volley into his own goal from 18 yards out.  Little more pressure came from the Ossett side and the Huddlers pressed to try and secure a lead.  But half time saw the scores level at 1-1.

Again Chris Helliwells players started sluggishly, with Helliwell, Kalinowski and Chatten all missing, the patched up side failed to play with any purpose.  Their punishment came ten minutes into the first half, and again poor defending all round the park saw Ossett go in front for the first time.

Suddenly the shape of the game was changed, the penny had dropped, and the Huddlers had to start.  They did to a certain extent, but it looked as if an equaliser was not to be as Bell crashed a shot against the post, and both Davies from a shot/cross and Quinn from a free-kick, came close.

The breakthrough did finally come.  Twenty minutes from time IC were awarded a corner, O'Donnell's pin point cross saw Tattersley steam in and head the ball into the Ossett goal. The question was could the Huddlers go on and take all three points??  Eventually the answer was yes and in true fighting Irish Centre style up popped Clarke with a stunning finale to a scrappy game with a curling left foot shot.

IC stay top yet havent really got out of first gear this season!! Linthwaite are the opponents next Sunday, away, your support would be very-much appreciated!!
