Sack the Board

Colin French  Wednesday, June 20, 2001  18:13 GMT

At last night's AGM for the Newcastle & District Welfare League, and to honour the league's centenary, the guest speaker was the 'legendary' Gordon McKeag. Having done his best through the 80's and into the 90's to hamper everything Newcastle United tried to achieve while he was chairman, he managed last night to mention the Toon only once.

After being ousted from NUFC by Sir John Hall, he somehow climbed the ladder within the FA or football league or something, but all he could talk about was the dark ages when he played rugby and tennis.

Our league must have been scraping the barrel to ask for his services, and everyone there last night remembered him for the harm he did to our beloved club.
