PROWLERS BACK TO BASICSBrian White Friday, August 16, 2002 06:13 GMT

Sheffield Prowlers will ring the changes for their final flurry of matches, after a catalogue of mechanical problems wrecked their hopes of a win at Boston — and probably their title hopes as well.
They were struck by seven engine failures as Boston — led by James Birkinshaw — chalked up a 50-37 win.
It left boss Neil Machin fuming afterwards and he’s now plotting a back-to-basics campaign for the remaining meetings.
“We should have won there, but it seemed that every time one of our riders hit the front, there was an engine failure. Some were unavoidable, but others weren’t and I feel it’s time changes were made,” he said.
“I’ve made my feelings known to some riders and if I have to put out training school lads in their place, then I will.
‘1 believe we have now flushed away our chances of winning the league, you can’t put old heads on young shoulders but we simply threw it away.”
Prowlers have rearranged Monday’s postponed return against Boston for September 23, while their next outing will be against Buxton on September 16.
