PUMAS SUFFER RARE DEFEAT

Brian White  Tuesday, July 23, 2002  19:51 GMT

Pumas suffered only their second Conference League defeat of the season at the hands of Rye House.

They were never in the hunt for victory after a nightmare start to the meeting which saw them concede three 5-1s and a 4-2 in the first four heats which left them trailing 19-5. But they held their own after that point and were level at 33-33 for the remaining 11 heats as they got used to the tight Hoddesdon track.

Daniel King and Adam Pryer carved out a 5-1 for Pumas in heat six but a 10-point deficit was as close as they got to the home side. Skipper Pryer led the Pumas challenge with 12+2 while Jason King gained a hard-earned 11+1 from seven rides with Daniel King paid for seven from four outings.

But the Peterborough youngsters did enough to keep the bonus point very much up for grabs when Rye House visit the Showground later in the season.
