3's TAKE FIVEPeter Liddell Monday, December 10, 2001 17:56 GMT
Mid Sussex 3rd XI (5) v (0) Southwick 3rd XI
With a three man advantage at the start Mids sought to capitalise early before Southwick’s reinforcements arrived. The breakthrough was not long in coming when Andy Lemay sent an early ball through to Liddell on the far post who then deftly guided it in between post and keeper. Five minutes later another great pass found Liddell again at the top of the D with the defence stranded, his first shot rebounded back off the keeper to Liddell who reversed it coolly into the goal. Further chances went begging as Mids carved the Southwick defence apart with Colin Street losing loads of fantasy league points (some suggestions of being nobbled by the Ladies 1st XI). As Southwick regrouped to full strength Mids played their best hockey of the game with fluid accurate passing (mostly) and were rewarded with another goal neatly tucked away by Prior. Much of the same in the second half except Southwick began to put together some attacks on Mids goal, some excellent keeping by Robinson and good coordination at the back from Dearsley-Hitchcock, Smith and Pope, with an excellent senior debut by colt Nick Harris. Street finally managed to put one away from a short corner, the speed of the shot caught the keeper out as it took its slow motion route between his kickers. As Southwick’s spirits faded, another Liddell/Lemay combination down the right produced the fifth goal as Lemay found the gap.
