Wemyss finish with a defeat

Hamish Fleming  Tuesday, May 14, 2002  06:51 GMT

Wemyss finished the season with a defeat to Lochgelly in their last game of the season.
This is the 3rd time Lochgelly have beaten us this season, however today's display showed that there is not that much between the 2 teams.
Wemyss started the game the better side and on the attack this was backed up by some good play down the left from Chris Martin and after various attacks they were awarded a penalty which Rab put away. Gelly then came back into the game and by halftime the score was 1 - 1. The second half Gelly came out with their tails up and scored 2 before Wemyss got back into the game , again via Rab , to take the score to 2 - 3 with 5 minutes to play. However a mistake in defence allowed Gelly in for a 4th and killer goal.
Today's game seen Wemyss back to playing football and left lot's of hope for next season. David Alexander and Wayne Logie had good performances at the back and Liam Varney played well before being subbed. The only down side to the game was the over zealous Gelly sidelines who seem to forget that this is only 13's football and mistakes are made by young players on both sides with no ill intent, everybody likes to see their children winning but it's alot sweeter when it is done through good sportmanship. Referees have a hard enough job on their own, with pressure from coaches, without having to deal with abuse from parents.
