A fine victory v Aztec FCFrank Smith Sunday, February 03, 2002 17:19 GMT
Thankfully the weather forecasters tale of woe did not materialize in the days prior to the game, and the match went ahead on an excellent Chapel Gate pitch.
The football played by Pinocchio FC in the first half was of equally fine quality. Playing uphill against the wind, Pinocchio kept the ball on the deck, and made numerous chances. 'Koki' open the scoring after some fine team play left him with just three defenders to beat! He took them on at pace and slotted home for his first of the season.
'Bins' then fired in from outside the area with a great strike, and Ben's pace gave him a brace. Half time 4-0, and the Pinocchio goal had yet to come under serious fire.
Into the second half, and within 3 minutes of the restart Aztec were back in the game with two quick breaks. Whether or not all Pinocchio's players had made it back onto the field of play is questionable, as holes in the defence became alarmingly numerous for a 'funny five minutes'. Thankfully, Pinocchio regathered, and 'Bins' made it 5-2 with another good strike.
Aztec only had one more attempt worthy of the name, with Frank Making a point blank save, the Aztec striker slicing the rebound well wide.
This was a fine win for Pinocchio, and a good match played in the right spirit.
