YMCA Edged Out In Cup ThrillerMark Lemm Friday, January 25, 2002 12:38 GMT
Reading YMCA 5's suffered mixed emotions last night as they were narrowly beaten 4-3 by Division 3 side, Riverside Park. Initially, agony was etched across the faces of the YM boys but as news spread of a cup reprieve as a "best loser", euphoria took over. With amazing similarity to Saturday's game against Woodley, YM fell 3 goals behind early in the first half after some individual errors let Riverside in. Riverside continued to dominate the early exchanges but YM were handed a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty for encroachment by a Riverside defender. Mark Lemm displayed a cool head and iron balls to slot home the kick giving his team a boost just before half time. The second half began with YM on the ascendency and quickly levelled the scores with 2 attractive strikes from Paul O'Boyle. The game became tense with both sides having chances before another defensive error let in Riverside to sneak a win they just about deserved.
