More cup success for Spartans
The Spa Hotel moved comfortably into their second final of the year by beating Abro Bovington 4-0 without really breaking sweat. The writing was on the wall for the visitors when, after 23 seconds Damian Mclucas latched onto Ian Lumsden's through ball and slotted past the keeper for the opener. On seven minutes the game was really over, Lee Miles bundled his way through after receiving Andy Mallet's pass and rounded the keeper to walk the ball in. Kieron Howes was having one of those days in front of goal, first he misdirected an eight yard header wide, then saw a twelve yard pile driver well saved and hit a shot against the keepers legs from six yards. Lee Docherty also broke into the box, but could not get a shot away on time.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first and the clinching goal came on 57 minutes, Marc Dalley held the ball up, laid it off to Howes who lashed it home from the edge of the box. Howes almost repaid the compliment when his fizzing cross was volleyed against the bar by Dalley. The centre forward then saw a further four efforts well saved by the keeper and another fly inches over the bar.
It was left to sub Dale Powell to wrap up the scoring in the final minutes. Sean Phelps ran the length of the pitch before seeing his shot saved, the ball rolled kindly to Powell who hit a curling effort wide of the keeper into the far corner.
A comfortable win for the Spartans, it could have been so many more. They now wait to see who they play in the final at Bridport's St Mary's Field on May 8th.
