PLAYERS PLAY DOWN INCIDENT

Ken Export EXCLUSIVE  Wednesday, January 09, 2002  09:32 GMT

BURKE AND FITTON 'WE DID WHAT ANYONE WOULD HAVE'

Plant Stars Danny Burke and Chris Fitton have played down reports that that acted 'bravely' and 'sensibly' in the early hours when helping four distressed young ladies in Bradford City Centre from a potentially life threatening situation.
Burke and Fitton were involved in protecting the girls from a mad Frenchman who could have been carrying anything and were praised by Police on Sunday for defusing the situation sensibly by escorting the girls to the safety of a nearby pub.
Burke said at training yesterday 'We just reacted too the situation like anyone else would it was nothing really, but when you step back and think about it, he could have been carrying anything'
Fitton commented 'We were following these girls and he just came from nowhere and he just wouldnt leave them alone so we just stepped in it wasnt anything really'
Plant Director of Football Dave Woodhead said 'The club have taken on board what happened and are very pleased Burke and Fitton were representing the club in licenced premises on Saturday evening and are very proud of the way both players reacted to an explosive situation.
