Reserves beat HordenClaire Foy Tuesday, February 26, 2002 11:39 GMT
The Reserves eased their way to a 9-4 win this Sunday even though the odds were against them. With just 11 players (three of whom were unfit, two with genuine illness one with severe alcohol poisoning!!) and a pitch that quickly turned into a mud bath, the reserves took on bottom of the table Horden.
All things aside the reserves were the better team and after taking an early lead there was no real threat of them being beaten. Speedy led the way with four goals, with Donna getting a hat-trick and Hollie a brace. Goal of the game was Donna's last effort, a goal so beautiful that she fell to the ground in awe and wonderment! Big crow celebrations for all of you!!!

Horden did manage to get four goals, but this was largely due to the fact that the Darlo midfield were goal hanging trying to get their name on the score sheet! For the first time in history the Reserves were upset when the final whistle blew! Star of the match for Darlo was Sarah who was forced into driving from Newcastle and playing even though she was ill. The team are also thankful to Graeme who dispensed with his usual quiet chat and instead screamed the instructions for the match in the changing room before the game. Hyperactive does not even begin to describe his approach to the game.
