Roeder makes his first Calamity?!Charlie Mills Wednesday, July 11, 2001 23:25 GMT
England international goalkeeper David James has completed his £3.5 million transfer from Premiership rivals Aston Villa. The keeper, who has often been nicknamed, Calamity James has been capped four times by his country, including three appearances last season. He finalised terms late last night and signed his new four-year contract at Upton Park earlier today.
He will be unveiled as manager Glenn Roeder’s second signing - following the £465,000 permanent capture of right-back Sebastien Schemmel – at a news conference later this afternoon.
Personally I have mixed emotions about the signing. In one way it shows a certain type of ambition, capturing an England international from a club in a much more powerful financial situation to ourselve. On the other hand I dont rate James much higher then Hislop. Shaka has had a poor season but before that he was amazing. We'll see though as James is classed as the mumber 1 by Roeder.
